Are Web 2.0's Still A Good Choice For Links?

Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding Web 2.0 properties.

First off, are they still a good choice after Penguin? Do they still work well for a first tier?

Secondly, I was wondering how you place your link in the web 2.0 ... Do I simply add an article, and within the article add a hyperlink to my site? e.g. 'For more up to date information on this matter, check out MY WEBSITE' ??

They still work, but you should be sure to diversify your link building (don't only use Web 2.0). As for where to place the link it really depends on the site - some allow links in the body and some do not. I also randomly place links to other sites in my Web 2.0 sites. For example, I have been doing SEO for a local financial planning company. I use their link and also links to companies like Goldman Sachs. Makes my Web 2.0 properties seems less spammy and puts my client in the same article as major players.
 
They're a good component of a backlink profile, but be sure you're doing more than just web 2.0s. They become more beneficial when you point high quality links to them and get them some PageRank.
 
They're my tier 1 and 2's right now. Then I diversify my links with social bookmarks, forum profiles, wiki links and blast them with SB.

I agree. I do the same with a lot of the sites I push. But it is also really dependent on a lot of different factors such as diversity, links/day, anchor text, post quality, etc.

I wonder if Google will ever go after tier 1 web 2.0s that have been abused with crappy backlink blasts. Probably not, seeing as though they're still granting high PR to ridiculously ugly and non-beneficial auto-approve blogs.
 
Web 2.0s are great for supplement links however the other big downside of many web 2.0s is that you can't control the other outbound links (the service puts them there) so if you do build some up to PR2 you can end up with less juice than on a private PR1 because of all the links going to other places that you don't control

They usually go after everything that people attains authority and gets spammed. But web 2.0s are too socially popular right now for that to happen.
 
I would certainly choose quality Web 2.0's after penguin for my Tier 1's,
linking some long tail KW's along with main keyword in them.
