Yes they are aaaaalllllllll dead, just like SEO, PPC, Youtube, CPA, IM in general. info products, blogging, autoblogs, niche sites, amazon review sites, PBN's, authority sites, adsense, PPV and all the other money making methods on the internet are dead, so why don't you keep flipping my burgers?

Acquire a list of a couple do-follow web 2.0s and you will be surprised how well they can work!

I think your problem is you seem to think you only need one main link type. Use a few quality web2.0s, a few good PBNs, a few guest blogs, etc, etc, etc... If you think you can simply create 50 web2.0s, blast them, then rank without getting slapped you're living in 2013. Unless you're thinking churn and burn you need to think more wide.

I can see why the OP would ask this because the BST marketplace here used to be loaded with SEO services that posted to every Web 2.0 in existence and now everyone had switched to selling PBN posts. The day will come when you will ask "are PBNS dead?" and the answer will still be the same as people above have posted.

Some of the web 2.0 sites are not indexed by google. When paste the URL in google this message appears. A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt
But Web 2.0's are still good to use for SEO, but only very few of them IMO. I personally only stick to blogger and wordpress blogs, weebly, tumbrl, myblog... because they get indexed well by Google and the links from those platforms are do-follow which is great. Just make them with unique content, good tags, pictures, meta tag optimization and push some backlinks to those properties. Also be careful with people who say they are "seo experts/gurus" because so many people claim to be experts but more often than not their knowledge is only standard.

I know they are alive and work to some degree, but it is very easy for an algorithm to manage.
If 99% of people are using the same techniques to rank sites, only a few will ever succeeded.
What are we going to do..... Keep pushing content and on page factors for ever and play right in to the hands of our overlord?
There has to be..... a next! Web 2.0's and PBN's are now, what about in 2 or 3 years time?
