I need your opinions and help in choosing something good for self defense, lately my neighbors houses have been broken into and just this morning i saw a suspicious guy in my yard, after making some noise, he then fled.

I heard about these BB CO2 Gas Guns, looks real , feels real but does not kill which is okay although i just want to scare the intruder away or injure him if i have too protect my family at any cost.

Can you give me some suggestions.

not sure where you live, but you can usually purchase a shot gun relatively cheaply and easily most places in US they make non-lethal rounds but not sure why you would want that, if someone is breaking into your house, might as well shoot them with the real thing

Get some CS gas/pepper spray. A CO2 BB gun might scare them, if it looks legit, but will barely leave a scratch if you have to shoot them. Also you run the risk of pulling that out and having them pull out a piece of their own. CS gas will disable them and give you a chance to flee or hit them with something heavy.

You could get a can of "bear spray", they use it to mace bears, supposedly shoots 35 feet

Get a trained dog and may be a real gun. Maybe a security system too.

Pick up a baseball bat. Fairly cheap. Get a nice lightweight, aluminium one.
Hit him with that and he won't be coming back.

I completely understand the non-lethal route but that leaves you vulnerable if the crook is a serious criminal. If you have to shoot someone with the BB gun, then your cover is blown because they now know that it isn't real. Also if you go the gas route, that can still leave them with time to pull out a real gun and possibly hurt you or your family.

Real guns are tricky. Lots of people don't want to own one, especially because of their family. If you do get one, you should obviously not use it unless you absolutely have to and try to use it as a scare tactic mostly.

Going non-lethal should work most of the times but if you don't want to leave anything to chance, and you're not against owning a gun for your protection, get the real deal.

I hope you and your family stay safe.

I'd say ths greatly depends on where you live. In a lot of EU countries you'll be put in jail for actions that would be considered self defense by most.
Personally I'd inform myself on what's allowed by law, and then find the most effective self defense tool allowed to protect myself and my family.

Before you go to bed each night set up some bear traps :)

Thanks for all the replies, I live in SA - crime here is starting to increase drastically, especially in my neighborhood. As much as i would like to get a real gun, i just cant. I have family most of the time around and little kids who are well you know curious to digg around, so that is why im opting for something less lethal. I have heard of some powerful CO2 pistols that shoot glass and pepper balls, apparently is painful when shot in close range and too the face. As for the intruder having a real gun, that i just have to hope doesn't happen. Might get a dog soon , once i get the wall sorted.T

A roofers slate hammer...pointed side in the balls. That should slow down any would be intruder/a***rapist.

if possible, add some motion detectors. loud noise is helpful since it shocks and they know they've been discovered.

For any security related issues it is best to consult with Dan Bilzerian
