I keep seeing some domain name providers asking me to pay 10-30usd for "premium" ssl lol I imagine other hoster does this too. Do you think it's a legal scam on-going or is there any use to paid SSL? Is using Let's Encrypt SSL different from using those "premium" ssl?

No they are not scam. Look into OV and EV SSL.

Additionally, you are paying them for being a trusted certificate authority. It is not easy becoming one.

Just because we have let’s encrypt right now doesn’t mean it will stay forever.

Paid SSL certificates, like those offered for $10-$30, often include features like extended validation (EV) or warranty coverage, which may be beneficial for certain businesses. However, for most websites, **Let's Encrypt** SSL provides the same level of encryption and security as these paid options, making the extra cost largely unnecessary. So, while it's not a scam, paying for SSL is often not essential unless you need specific additional features.

Paid SSL certificates can offer extra features or warranties, but for most websites, a free Let's Encrypt SSL is just as secure and often sufficient.

You will rarely use domain side ssl if you are hosting a site. You can install free ssl at your hosting, if your hosting don't provide free ssl, most do.
You can also install ssl at cloudflare.

Except for hosting like ionos, avoid them like a plague.
