Are Reciprocal and Nofollow Backlinks Completely Useless?

Reciprocal linking works if both sites are sending each other traffic. Other than that the links are pointless for SEO.
I like to add nofollow links because it makes your link building strategy look more natural in the eyes of Google.

Nofollow links might not pass anchor text or PR, but they pass something. I have backlinks from wikipedia and ehow and I can tell you without a doubt they are extremely valuable.
My opinion on reciprocals are that they are beneficial, if for no other reason than most people say they are not beneficial and most have no idea what they're talking about. No two websites are exactly equivalent though, so one is going to get more out of the deal than the other. Make sure the one that gets more out of it is you.

I would say nofollw links are not bad actually...if you have got some nofollow links that not harms your SEO..yes it might not pass the PR value but nofollow links are also indexing. So, you will get some benifits, also if you get some noffolow along with ******** links its visible like very natural in Google eyes.

Really no link is completely useless. It is always a matter of how much good it will do you compared to how much time/energy/money it costs you. If they are easy to do then snap them up, if a link is going to take more effort/money then you have to decide whether or not it is worth the trouble. As mentioned earlier you have to look at where the link is coming from to make a decision on whether or not it is worth doing.

We feel thеy аre useless fоr building а PR Ñ–f that Ñ–s whу yоu dо it but Ñ–f dоne in the right places they should build а good traffic witch in return Ñan purchase уоur product or learn аbout уour site and then in return thеу start linking and spreading thе news аbout уоu good product - ѕо nofollow links аrе fine from thе rÑ–ght places аnd oncе agаin thе SEO wÑ–ll alwayÑ• point back tо yоur site content and quality - good sites wÑ–ll benifiet, useless crap sites аrе what thеу аre.
recently i see , lot of web 2.0s not easily getting indexed in google and show in yahoo explorer as they use to earlier.
but blogspot and other no ******** links are indexed much quicker and even appear in google webmaster external links in about 2-4 weeks without using any link indexing service.
As far as rankings is concerned i do see improvement in serps....but i feel more number of links are needed than ********.

But, I will say be careful for too many reciprocal links. I've seen quite a few clients come to me that were "stuck" in the rankings. After analyzing their site, I'd often come across link directories full of reciprocal links. You know the ones I'm talking about. Old school link exchanges.
After pulling my hair out trying everything, onsite, offsite, etc. I decided to pull the pages from one client as a test. Within a few weeks his site JUMPED in the rankings and he finally hit the first page.
I tried this with several other clients over a while and all of them experienced similar results.
I believe that there's a part of the algorithm that takes a look at backlinks, and outbound links to determine a "reciprocal" value. If there are too many, then a penalty is enforced. If there's only a few, then its fine and is counted as a link.
