Actually, Quora is bound with no-follow attributed. But you'll get a potential traffic from there as well. But you've to make it a proper way. Though its also effective for SEO.

But if you can make your answer as good as possible so that the Question maker find a value on your answer that will be taken appreciably. Also if you use an proper anchor then it should be more useful for others.
 
Quora backlinks are good for referral traffic but in terms of SEO? I don't think they would do anything.

Better to make quality backlinks that would be beneficial in terms of SEO.
 
In my opinion if your link are visible then they are. Means you gotta have your answer climb to the top to the reverent answer view which is the default view. I.e. you are able to sneek link(s) dodging moderation.
 
No, unless you are targeting it for referral traffic; do not waste time creating nofollow backlinks on it. Won't help you rank anything. Rather put that content on expired tumblrs/blogspots which will help you rank.
