I have observed a noticeable decline in open discussions around PBNs, even though many practitioners still discreetly depend on them. With Google’s algorithmic refinements increasingly targeting manipulative link schemes and placing greater emphasis on authority-driven signals, one has to question are PBNs genuinely losing their effectiveness, or simply transforming into more sophisticated, brand-oriented networks that integrate seamlessly within the web ecosystem?

They have pretty much perfected their algorithm when it comes to backlinks and detecting spam.
For the past 2 years, the algorithm updates focus mostly on other aspects.

That's why it seems they are not as effective.
Like you said, they place greater emphasis on other signals.
It's not that they don't work, more like they carry less weight now.

With that said, it can be tricky but still possible to get nice boost from PBNs and for a long time.

My strong thoughts are however, well curated PBNs built on aged, contextually aligned domains with natural outbound link patterns can still deliver tangible results when used strategically. The key lies in subtlety, diversification, and ensuring that every link looks and behaves as part of an authentic ecosystem rather than a manufactured one.

They sure can.

this,

since most people buying pbn links would be basically around getting link farms links, then yes, they're useless,
well built pbns are not going anywhere, it's not as they're labelled as "pbns" for google bots,
they're seen just as links from authority websites when done right

Would you say the future of PBNs lies more in creating real, brand backed authority sites rather than typical expired domain setups?

That's not the future, that's the way it's always been. Since before they were labelled PBN, networks where the sites were treated as proper business entities in their own right are the ones that have typically worked and endured. They don't even have to be traditional blogs or news magazines - tool sites, info archives, price comparison sites and more can all exist to primarily be a source of links for their owners.

PBNs aren't gone, just getting sneakier. People now build them to look natural and blend with the real sites.

You're right! PBNs haven't disappeared - they've just changed. People now make them look like real sites with good content and natural links. The old spammy ones don't work anymore, but smarter, brand-like PBNs still do.

Yes, I agree it is not the future. The networks that truly stood the test of time were never just thin blogs built for links, they were proper online entities with purpose, structure, and value. When you treat each site as a genuine brand whether that’s a resource hub, comparison platform, or data-driven tool it naturally earns trust and blends seamlessly into the ecosystem.

In my opinion, PBNs can still be a powerful and useful SEO tool if they acquire quality backlinks genuinely and aren't DA/DR manipulated.
