are payments via crypto really "anonymous"?

Crypto payments aren't anonymous by default. You gotta put in some work to make them that way.

Yeah, you're right. Crypto isn’t as anonymous as people think. Once you link your ID or wallet to any app, it's pretty easy to track you down. It’s not much different from using a bank account in that sense, just with a little more privacy on the surface. But honestly, I think the whole "anonymous" idea is overhyped.

when you think about it, you have a lot of your personal info linked to all your wallets. Many apps require your ID too

so how in hell are crypto payments considered "anonymous" or "under the table"? You can be identified as easy as if you were paying via your bank account
In most cases, it can be traced. Especially if you are doing large volume transactions.

While crypto transactions are pseudonymous, they can be traced back to individuals through wallet addresses and KYC processes in exchanges, reducing privacy compared to traditional cash payments.
