Hello everyone,
I've seen that people seem to interact more in response to frequent notifications or algorithmic cues than out of true desire. Platforms seem to be teaching consumers and producers to respond rather than engage.

Do you think alerts increase engagement or just make noise?
Has it caused you to change the way you interact or post?

I'm curious to know what other people think about this.

“Absolutely constant alerts train us to check apps compulsively instead of focusing.

definitely increses the amount of activity no question. even the people i know that uses their phone the least will change in demeanour if we are having a conversation and you hear that notification pop. its almost as if they need a second or two to reorient their brain back to the conversation. it is very disruptive but likely also why it is the most addicting part

brain rot is a real disease of our generation. i'd say the majority of the population is acting like robots and responding automatically.
but I don't think it has much impact. even if I've disabled all the notifications, my feed is based on the habits and preferences that were identified by the system. in some way, we are all robots haha.

Notification surely boost interaction. But too much is also a harm.

There's less and less genuine interaction, but tons of notifications and prompts. It feels like we're reacting automatically now, like robots. Personally, I've started posting less because I feel like people are liking and commenting more because of the algorithm than out of real interest
