Are niche websites dead?

This is a legit question, given the path Google is taking based on the last few core algorithm updates and the type of websites that have received the biggest hit...Do you guys think niche websites (monetized by ads NOT affiliate programs) are dead? is it practical to start and build a niche website today?

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this.

If by practical you mean quick results and not months & years then Non-English is the way to go.
Otherwise niche websites will take time, months & months, for someone who wants to rely on this as full time income, this is not practical. It has become more of a side gig, until eventually it grows to decent level, and that is with constant investment in backlinks. Still it will be big if.
 
If you have $20 - 30K sitting around to spend on a monster domain DR/DA 70+ 3000 RD + that you are then willing to properly restore, and build out then you can still build a niche site. Otherwise 'statistically' niche sites are a thing of the past. Just look at the SERPs, and you'll see for yourself. The only thing that is ranking is absolute authorities, and imo their time is also limited. Sooner or later the 'best xxx for xxx' or all those display ad riddled pages are going to get nuked. Online publishing (as we BHW guys knew it) is done.
 
Agree above all, niches sites are doomed, small sites can't get good traffic nowdays, AI will change everything.
 
Just because niche blogs are wiped out from Serp doesn't mean that niche sites are dead.

The search intent for niche knowledge is still there and will never phase out, as long as humans are alive on Earth.

The form of a niche site may drastically adapt/change, but the concept of niche site lives forever.
 
Niche websites are not dead according to my personal opinion because all you need to keep surviving is knowing how to get quality and targeted traffic from different PPC platforms.
 
Niche websites monetized by ads are not dead, despite Google's updates. It's still practical to start one, just focus on high-quality content and follow SEO best practices to stay competitive
 
It's really tough for small niche sites to go head-to-head with the big media giants that dominate the search results, no matter how hard they try. But somehow, there are a few that manage to hold their own and keep their content in the mix, almost like they've got a bit of luck on their side.
 
It's a bad investment IMO. The only real chance any new niche page has to rank is on very specific keywords that SGE will ruin anytime soon.
 
I agree, niche sites are struggling as small sites can't attract significant traffic these days. AI will transform everything.
