Nah, most affiliate networks aren’t shady or illegal. The big names like Amazon, CJ, ShareASale, and Impact are totally legit, they’ve been around for years, pay properly, and have proper tracking.
That said, some smaller or dodgy ones can be a bit sketchy, usually the ones that promise crazy money fast or push shady products. Just stick to well-known platforms or do a quick background check before signing up.
Basically, Affiliate marketing is legit. Just avoid the hype-y nonsense.

Yes, it is true to some extent. That is why I avoid new networks especially.

There are some which are perfectly better and have great commissions but they don't have any direct way to join, you might need to find some invitation or affiliate manager who can help you get in. Those are the best ones so far for me.

No most of them are not illegal or shady. I would suggest you stick with a major affiliate network like Clickbank, Maxbounty, etc.
