I'm doing local marketing for a few businesses, while testing one of my strategies I decided to lock down some .mobi domains to see if they would rank well in search engines for mobile terms.
Go to Google keyword tool and set target devices to mobile devices only, then check your keywords. You may surprised how many people punch in these buyers keywords right in their phone.
I read on one of the thousand forums and web properties that Google is taking extra initiative for their web based algorithm, to the point that mobile websites should in most cases always show up highest in mobile searches for these keywords.
Locked down a dozen .mobi sites, basic on'page seo few backlinks and most of them are rising to the first page of the serps. This is a good tactic, maybe someone who has done more can emphasize further.
I have already secured a few offline sales using this method.
