Are Micro Niche Sites still profitable?

I was considering getting back into MNS' but was wondering if you guys have found it to be profitable still?

I mean, doing keyword research is not a big strength of mine so I'll probably just pay for that from a service here. So expenses would be around $10 for a good keyword + $10 for the domain name. I also would buy the articles because most likely I'll have nothing that I know of in the niche that I get. So $5 per good-quality 500-word article x 3 = $15.

The total cost would then be $35.

What amount of monthly searches & CPC would make this profit back? Is it a good idea?
I know this thread will answer a lot of questions for the new guys.

Is there any other way to monetize a mini site other than Adsense and get payed via PayPal?

You've also forgotten the price to get ranked. As regards to monetising, you can become an affilaite rather than just relying on Adsense.

You can check some CB products, and make sites on them and promote it.

Right, except that I own Scrapebox and GSA Search Engine Ranker and I want to learn more SEO and I'll do it myself

Yeah, There are some products with low gravity and newly released ones. Try those.
If you get into products with High Gravity, Competition will be very high and it will be a Hard time for you.

That's good! It just wasn't clear in your post

They are definitely profitable! I run a few and feel that in some ways they're better than larger more time consuming sites as you're safer in the SERPs. If one Authority site (equal to say, 4 MNS) gets penalised that says goodbye to a much larger income than if you lose a MNS.

Why does ranking your site have to cost anything? OP said he's not good at keyword research, but if he's spending money for a good one then I would certainly hope the competition is low enough for him to be able to rank the site on his own. :dontknow:

Not trying to hijack the thead but i went through the exact same thing you are talking about here, and it was painful as i lost almost 40% of my income when my authority site got penalized.

How much maintenance does a MNS usually require? I know Google loves dynamically updating content (blogs), but is it still possible to keep your site in the #1 position if you build it statically and update maybe once a month?

Right, completely forgot about maintenance and updating the site.

Since I won't be writing my own articles, even buying one per month surely would cost more than profit, correct?

Both models work. It just comes down to this question "Does this site deserve to be #1 for this keyword?" or "Is this the kind of content google expects from adsense publishers?". If you answered honestly yes to both, then your site can potentially make money.

Well, sometimes Google doesn't agree w/ you. Perhaps you believe your website deserves to be #1, but Google doesn't always put it that way. Perhaps your content is great content, but Google doesn't see it that way. Etc.

On that note, does anyone know if a website can maintain a #1 spot for a keyword after putting in maybe 3-4 articles and never again? 3-4 articles over one month then just leave it like that and build links?

Im able to hold #1-2 position with one-page site for EMD, 500 monthly searches w/o any work.
