are .me as good as .com for seo?

I'd like to ask the same question also. Is it possible to rank first for a .me domain name? I have a really good .me domain name but it shows up on like the 20th page of google for that term.

the .com extension does have some weight but it is by far not the only factor. IF it is a good name there is a lot you can still do with it, optimize on site and do the usual stuff: social bookmarking, PRs, link bait etc. If your domain is relevant and you have quality links you will rank

I agree with seomanifest
.me stands for montenegro, that's a very little country in central Europe so it is allready geolocated.
In order to internationalize your traffic, get links from US/UK sites and it should go all well

Thanks BlackMelvyn,

I would also add that if you are targetting a specific region then it is very important to host in that region.

Any ccTLD will not rank as well as a .com or other gTLD for a global search because there is preference given to a ccTLD when you live in the same country.

It also helps to make sure that your DNS and webserver is located in the country you target.
