Are Informational Web Sites Dead?

I've been a long-time user of Perplexity AI, and today ChatGPT released Deep Research. This got me to thinking, will 2025 be the end of the line for informational web sites? With the amazing power of detailed research with the leading AI tools, why would anyone bother navigating through web sites? I know, this sounds like "SEO is dead", but I don't think that will be the case for Transactional or Navigational queries. But informational? Why bother?

It will surely reduce a good proportion of the search volume over time, it's still far from being dead tho,
People will take time to adapt, so is the AI tools to be able to fully replace the human content/work, etc...
Things will get worse for the informational type of pages, but it will take at least 10 years from now to make a real impact that would 'kill' the market,
There's a massive ROI available to be made during the next decade, anyone can start Blog/SEO from scratch today and still make life-changing earnings

its like revolution, upgradation, but seo is not dead, it will stay forever as websites are there.

I don't think so
 
I don't think research AI is reliable enough yet. If I care about the accuracy of the information I'm getting, I'm not going to AI. I'm going to manually check out a few different reputable sources.

But most people aren't vetting their information nearly thoroughly enough. I'm always amazed when I hear somebody cite ChatGPT as a source for a dubious piece of information they are arguing for.

AI is already syphoning out traffic from search and this trend is going to continue. However, informational websites are never going to truly die. They might get less traffic, but they will also become easier and faster to create with AI. For some people it might actually improve the ROI on such projects.
 
Just follow the EEAT strategy in any type of content, either onsite or offsite, use keywords with high search volume and low competition and make sure that the technical SEO is okay. With quality backlinks along with these, i hope we can make it in 2025 as well.

No they´re not, the game has changed.

Repurposing what´s already there is not enough. We need to be able to provide value by offering insightful and unique content that resonates with our target audience. We need to showcase both our experience and expertise on the topic we´re developing.
 
I don't think AI is developed enough to understand how to convey buying information on a presell page. So if a site concentrates on buying keywords and manually writing compelling sales copy , that should be enough to stand out in a market increasingly filled with computerized content.
 
You're right that AI tools like ChatGPT are making it easier to get answers quickly, but websites won’t disappear.
They’ll evolve to provide deeper, original content that AI pulls from.
For informational searches, AI might reduce the need to browse, but people still value diverse perspectives and detailed research that AI can't always replicate.
Websites will adapt by focusing on content AI uses, while transactional and navigational searches will still need traditional web navigation.
 
SEO is not dead and not even for informational blog sites. listen I have heard this for the last 5 years and still listening. but nothing happens. Yes, massive changes are happening. But people need time to adopt all the new technologies.
To me, it will take at least more than 10 years from now to massively impact the SEO of new technology. If you start blogging today from even scratched then you can earn massively for at least the upcoming 10 years. and within 10 years as a true SEO, you can change and adopt yourself on how to survive and rule the new conditions and technologies. Hope this will make sense to you. So no tension only enjoy mate!
 
not a big change, some people might find it better, information is incomplete, you still need to go to the website to check some details, but let's see how they will implement this feature but for sure AI is not taking full success here.
 
Nothing is dead as long as it has good, preferably original content that someone finds useful and backlinks that indicate its importance.
 
AI definitely changes how people consume pure informational content, but it doesn’t kill the model outright. Google’s own SGE tests already showed traffic loss on “how-to” queries, yet sites that bundle info with tools, visuals, or community still capture users. Informational sites that rely only on text walls will stagnate, but those that add interactive elements, calculators, case studies, or topical authority can still grow. Think of it as “commodity info is dead, value-added info survives.”
 
Yes, their need is eliminated to good extent. If are starting a new project, it should not be such a website.
