They're using machine learning for everything, based on user behavior.

Well it seems they are taking a step back from machine learning, G sacked Giannandrea and replaced him with Amit Singhal who is completely against the AI approach.
that's probably the main reason we saw such big changes in March.

No it's still ML. For sure.
They may have changed AI policy somewhere else within G.
