Are guest posts still considered White Hat in 2025?

The bots never read G policies before. They specifically mention guest posting in this document. Guest posting is not white hat https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies

For some reason I can't see any benefit. Even my indexes are being deleted.

Guest post outreach is still safe and effective as long as it's real, relevant, and not paid link schemes. When done naturally with quality sites, it’s white-hat and still one of the best ways to build authority.

Guest posting is still effective when done for genuine value and relevance websites, not link manipulation, making it a generally safe white-hat approach.

I’ve been doing outreach for guest posts, but some SEOs say it’s borderline grey hat now. What’s your take is it still a safe and effective method for ranking?
Yes, it is completely safe to do guest posts. But you should make sure that you choose only quality blogs for this. Do not go for blogs who accept a lot of guest posts.

It's only about paid guest posts. Aren't they white hat if published with same author name on free guest post sites? Do you think they should add an affiliate disclosure?
For sure if you aren’t paying for the link (with the caveats below).

But let’s be realistic: 99% of guest posts that you actually want are paid. Unless the purchaser is a sucker and pays for a link on a link farm which will be of no use at all.

That brings up my next point.

Websites that freely advertise “write for us” and other CTAs to get you to post content on their website for free are link farms. Even though it’s free, if you read googles spam policies you’ll find right at the top that if you are building links with the intent to manipulate search, it is still black hat.

Posting on link farms that encourage posting content where you can post a link doesn’t do much or anything to move the needle. If you refer to the document I linked it also covers “user generated spam.” Posting on link farms is user generated spam and is a useless tactic in 2025 (great for guest post sellers tho).

So even if free, unless this is real outreach to a website in or close to your niche, and they don’t have an obvious pattern of outbound links that are optimized (link farm/“pbn”) it’s still link spam.

The fact that everyone is charging for guest posts and big blogs charging quite high might be a reason why Google is now considering it as blackhat.

G has considered guest posting black hat since at least 2013. Many people these days probably don’t know who Matt Cutts was. A lot of people probably forgot him. But he was the head of Google web spam team and he had it out for link building because back then links were still very important. Maybe the most important part of SEO.

He said to stick a fork in guest posting way back then! Although G still couldn’t really detect guest posting at the time without manual review. Things are a lot different now. But the point is G has not liked guest posting in more than a decade.

Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.

Just imagine the number of bsts here on BHW offering guest posts from 2013 till now and the orders they received. There would have seen some results still and that is why the services continue till now.

Yeah that’s not necessarily why, but I’m not going to attack marketplace sellers or services, and I’m not going to explain how the internet works in relation to sales of products and services.

Even in my niche there’s sites that have gotten awful reviews on every website/forum/review website since 2013 and even before, but they still are online, and still selling products even though their product is crap, and always has been.

While your quip seems realistic as to why services might sell even when there’s no results, it’s not.

I find guest posting safe when I focus on value, relevant topics, and trusted sites because that builds authority and search visibility long term.

Guest posts are still safe in 2025, but only when they’re genuine editorial contributions. If the site is relevant, the content adds real value, and the link makes sense, it’s still a strong authority signal. The “grey hat” label comes mostly from paid, irrelevant, or mass-produced placements. Real guest posts remain effective and low-risk.

Yes guest posting is still white hat SEO if they are done naturally and provide value to reader. When you publish high quality ,original content on relevant and authoritative website with natural backlinks .It is safe and effective SEO. However buying low quality backlinks is Black hat SEO.

Guest posting is still considered White Hat SEO in 2025 if it’s done naturally and for the right reasons. If you’re publishing high quality relevant content on real websites with real traffic it’s completely safe.

The problem happens when people use spammy sites, PBNs or mass low quality guest posts just for links. Google mainly targets manipulative link schemes, not genuine collaborations.

Focus on relevant niche sites, strong content, and natural anchor text. When done correctly, guest posting is still a powerful way to build authority, backlinks and referral traffic.

It's 2026 but anyway, I think it's still one of the best "white hat" way to boost your ranking on google

Yes, guest posts are still considered white hat in 2025 if they are done *naturally on relevant, high-quality websites*. The key is focusing on valuable content and genuine collaboration rather than mass posting or using low-quality sites just for backlinks.

The focus on guest posting is the content. They content should not be written as if it primary aim is for the backlink. The content should be of quality.

guest posting itself isn’t the problem. google’s issue has always been scaled, manipulative guest posting, where the only goal is dropping links on random sites.if the site is relevant, has real traffic, and the article actually fits the audience, it still works fine. those links usually look natural because they’re contextual and part of real content. the risky part is mass guest posting on generic “write for us” networks. that footprint is easy to spot.
personally i see it as just one piece of the puzzle. a few good guest posts combined with other diversified backlinks usually works much better and keeps the link profile looking natural.
