Are guest post backlinks useless in 2020?

guest post backlinks are no more useless in 2020 than they were in 2010; just do it in a white hat way, or white hat looking way, and you should be good to go.

and google has not way of knowing if a guest post link was paid or not (in fact this is so of most links), unless you make it obvious; free or not, there are too many guest post links on the web to make it a very risky strategy, unlike others.

Just like “nofollow” arent considered by the algorithm.

Google’s comments about SEO best practices are about as trustworthy as China’s data on COVID-19.

I believe it is still alive. A link from guest post carries a lot of benefits to your website until you find a zero value site.

Of course they will say this..

and what else we can expect from him, he is still using google plus link on his twitter profile he is living in 2013

Google can say whatsoever they want, but the truth falls back to experience.

Bottom line is that guest posting does work. The facts speak for itself and show that it is still a relevant way to gain high quality links. But guest posting effectively in 2020 is very different than it was even a few short years ago.

This Google employee says that guest post links have zero value. What do you think guys?

That is NOT what a google employee said, you've just twisted his words and ask if it's true.
He said: "Those links have zero value. It's a waste of time if you're just doing it for the links.". Basically, he's referring to guest posts on the sites which were created purely to sell guest posts and offer no value.

I hate this guy john for endless reasons... I don't know why does he even use Twitter. I think he is drunk when he tweets... IMAO, You shouldn't read his tweets, anyway, you can't understand whether he is helping you or trying to tell you're in wrong industry. I wish I could kick him out of twitter even from earth.

No I did not he is exactly saying what I mentioned. Just think about it for a second;)

How can google know which pages are guest post or normal ones? links are still links and they bring power, trust and relevance. I think
correct . Google will only not give authority to guest links when they detect them , if they can't detect they can't hurt :)

I've tried to explain this time and again.

Links only count if they generate engagement.

Google is monitoring user activity. If links are built never to be clicked, they don't exist and actually count against you.
This means most of the links sold here are useless?
