Since IG doesn't send a confirmation email, can you just toss in a random trash mail at the instagram account creation or does that raise some red flags on your account and one should always use proper hotmail/gmail accounts?

I don't see why hotmail/gmail will be more proper than other domains. Anyhow, you never know what they will do in the future. They may want to verify emails at some point.

Why would they do this . I don't think its necessary to have good olden account for this.

Didn't for me. At least, didn't used too. I put in a fake email for one of my aged accounts. I just logged into the account (decided to bot it), looked up the email, and verified the email was non-existent on hotmail before registering it on hotmail there afterwards.

YOu do need a valid email and phone. Ig will ask for them at one point in time. Better safe than sorry.

well, i had/have around 400 accs from the time when it wasn't a requirement to register with an existing email, there wasn't even email verify back then let alone phone verify, now i can't access those anymore and lost about 1 million followers total lol

i think registering accs with existing email addresses should be the bare minimum if you care about those accs

very important cuz Instagram send a confirmation email for every user

If you're batch creating IG accounts, your best bet is to go to Fiverr or the marketplace and pay for gmail/hotmail emails. You'll get a spreadsheet so it's easy to keep track of.

IG doesn't require you to verify your email but they do send a confirmation email after registration.

If you want to avoid getting banned easily then I suggest you use any of the big 3 email providers. That way you stay under the radar if they decide to look for any common footprint when it comes to email address'.
