Sometimes I get bored of writing those long, boring to write informative keywords related articles and I need to relax a bit (but still have to publish something) so I write an article I find funny (even it doesn't really have a connection to my niche).

I'm not a comedic genius by any means, but even if I was, would funny articles be recognized as quality content by Google? The Googlebot and their algorithm doesn't seem to have a sense of humor (like Google as a whole by the way) so I think it's a valuable questions.

Let's go with the theory your website is small and you don't have an audience that will link to your article if it makes them laugh to make the matter simple.

Does only serious content would be considered as quality content by Google?

If the article attracts traffic, and visitors spend time reading it - yes

While "good" is an objective term, "quality" isn't.

Once upon a time, search engines used to rank content based on a few simple things. These included, in large part, keyword inclusion (or how frequently a piece of material could stuff a single keyword in), and the fact that it existed in the first place.

Times have changed, though, and today search engines prioritize ranking quality content over....you know... content in general.

Only thing matters is traffic driving towards website but make sure you won't spam.

Surely Google can't judge the quality based on how funny the content is but if it helps to engage the user and brings traffic you may give it a shot.

Yes, Funny content can also gain traffic, but it shouldn't contain any violated words or content.

Looking at their quality guidelines, it really does seem as though "informative" content is their preference, which is why I always tell people to focus on visitors rather than Google. If you focus on attracting visitors, you can network your way around Google and be found through alternative platforms such as Reddit, Quora, Twitter, etc. Google's algorithm isn't going to appreciate humor. It isn't even going to understand it. But people will!

Sure, if you write a funny but still useful article about the niche topic. If the subject is 'investing in X' your article could be "how I wound up wearing a barrel from investing in X" that shows people what not to do. Being humorous doesn't have to mean you're being irrelevant.

It depends on how it satisfies the query intents of the keyword you are targeting.

If you are in a buying intent keyword, and you write a funny article about the product, your odds are very low.

The best thing is to put a specific example. You can show one article and the keyword you are targeting and this way, it will be easier to see how well it may rank based exclusively in content (intent satisfaction)

Extra tip: Check the results for the given keyword and competitors to see if the article may fit in any means.

Are you trying to please your readers or Google?

If your content gets visitors then you've done your job. If these people share the links to your content, then you've done even better.

Well in a ideal world, I'd like to please both. But you're right, not all articles should be written with the intent of pleasing a Search Engine robot.
