Are forum sites a valid competition?

Hey,

Let's say that majority of the result from keywords in a specific niche are questions posted on niche forums and so on.

How would you feel about this if you would be trying to rank a brand new website?

The sizes of those forums vary, but let's say that the user base is similar (or higher) to BHW.

Do you think it's easier or harder to outrank those results compared to just regular sites, or is there no difference?

It's only my opinion and my site is not brand new... I like the keywords where I mainly see forums and reddit. I find it easy to rank for those keywords.

When i see forum posts ranking in the top results, it usually indicates that it is an easy keyword to rank. Mostly.

IMHO it is two things - First of all, the content itself. Secondly, usability. If both of those are top notch, it’s a hard game (but then, both of you are relying on a third party to get you traffic, so the mileage might vary).

If you see forum threads in the SERP - that means that content is quite good. Try to rewrite it a little bit and add to your money site + add some backlinks. And here you go into the TOP.

I still check the keyword difficulty in ahrefs or semrush. If it's easy I go for it.
