Are Flippa listings lying about domain age?

Check out this completed listing: wallstreets net

He says the domain is 13 years old in the title of the listing, and even provides a link to the whois: "Archived since 2000-02-07 check here or the attached file on the right ."

However he registered the domain on 2013-08-15 and the actual domain age is 1 Months, 11 days. It's actually the 58 records that have been archived since 2000, not the domain itself.

The site was originally registered 13 years ago, but it was dropped many times in between. Is this an honest way to sell a domain?

What do you guys think?

Does it say the drop period? It could have been dropped and picked back up immediately. Not exactly honest, but it is happening. Is it making money? Not really.

on flippa there is a lot of lying ..... this is a dropped and i think many do that. they count the whole age and not the one they register.

Use this http://archive.org/web/web.php and check site history. If it has no history it means the seller is lying.

It's business man way to sell the domain, but it's still a lie.

I cannot say if it lie or not without seeing the domain, its might be dropped by owner may be it could be strong domain went into auction by register it might have been picked up before its "pure drop", if that is the case age is still counted from the day its registered ...

Well, it is black hat is it not? Increase age, increase traffic... or exaggerate the two, then flip. So i guess the question isn't whether or not it's honest, it's:

1) Do I want to buy a domain who's seller used white hat, black hat or gray hat techniques?
2) Can I personally do anything with a site who's traffic is bots and falsely aged?

the answer to 1 you will have to decide on your own
the answer to 2 is a question of what you know. The answer can be Yes, I can flip the site, yes I can add more value to this and do _____. Or with limited knowledge, your options may also be limited

So are you guys saying the WHOIS information can be faked for a domain's registration date ?
