Are Exit Pop ups hurting my SERP?

Yup webbmaster reconsideration - it took a whole month (almost 5 weeks).

Pop up was variable, you could configure it in different ways.

Endo f the day the advice from G is "We do not like pop ups" period
However, lightboxes seem to be acceptable (though from a "user experience" point of view, there really is little difference), - most not savvy users think a light box is a pop up anywa -I mean ot does the same thing - so why they make this distinction god only knows.

But G have said on more than one occasion, they dislike popups - no matter how they are implemented.
Get a lightbox instead.

In my case, a lightbox wouldn't be any different because it would still need to be triggered when a user left the website which means a PROMPT box would still need to be used and a lightbox wouldn't be able to be used on EXIT
 
In my experience my SERP dropped within 5 days or so after I used the plugin wplapdance. After uninstallment the SERPS were back to normal. I tried easy exit bot as well and the same results! I am no expert but I would not recommend and exit popup script to anyone:(
 
My guess is yes.

There are some very effective lightbox solutions available (though most cost) one of them is about $77 for as many sites as you want.
Can't remember the name - but worth a try.

Popups are a fail, and have been now for a few years.

To me the answer is pretty simple. People hate pop ups and so does big G. Remember that Matt Cunts is all about the user.
 
Well that can explain why a competitor of mine just got slapped... I refuse to use this kind of pop up, I hate it so much.

Curious thing though, the pop up didn't worked very well with safari, because when I clicked the big "BUY NOW" button, the script thought I was trying to leave the page and said "WAIT, FOR JUST $0,XX A DAY...". I mean WTF, I'm trying to buy your shit already!

I guess Karma never fails :)
 
I remember having read this thread a few months back before i installed exit pop ups on my site which was earning well with adsense. I did exit pop ups and send the traffic to clickbank CPA, guess what, i did not earn more than what i have been earning through adsense though both together had increased my earnings by 100% but then it got the kick from SERPs and everything started going downhill. Within a week or so i removed the exit pop ups and though the rankings did not drop much, but even after a month of this happening it is yet to come back to the stage where it was, ultimately, i lost the adsense earnings as well as the new stream of income which i was planning, slowly inching back to normalcy, Karma, gain i guess :)

OK. now my biggest site slapped by google (not sandboxed) to page 8, and i use exit pop up >> do you guys know this wordpress plugin "EXIT RESCUE"?

Google hate that kind of popup? The popup only works in firefox.

Exit pop ups are simply desperation,I'm not suprised google hates them,like everyone else.I'm sure G can tell quite easily if you have one and act accordingly.
Simple solution,remove plug in and ping your site,see if G forgives you.

Pop ups are well outdated now,if people don't find what they want they will leave,an exit pop up just ensures they will never recommend or visit your site again.
 
OMG I wish I had read this post before !!

I was on top five for a 3000 searches/ month KW. And making few sales a month. It took me a while to get at this positition. (Thanks to BHW).
Last week I installed an exit popup asking for email.... This was an exit popup tat poped only when you hover mouse outside upper screen.
3 days after installing this shit my site disapeared from serps ! I deactivated right away!
What should I do now to recover same position ?
