Are exact match domains making a comeback?

EMDs can still rank quickly in low competition or very specific intent niches because they exactly match the query, but this does not indicate that Google has “brought them back” as a ranking factor in general. In competitive niches with good content, branding, and relevance will still beat out EMDs. What you’re seeing is likely just low competition + targeted intent.

I think in low competition niches exact match domains still get a small boost, but it’s not a big ranking factor anymore, it just looks easier to rank when competition is weak.

Honestly? They never fully disappeared.Google just stopped giving them that automatic boost they had years ago.

Now an EMD only works if the site behind it actually deserves to rank.In low-competition spaces especially local or super specific long-tails the domain itself can improve CTR and perceived relevance.

That alone can help it move faster early on But in competitive niches a weak site on an EMD still won’t survive. So yeah they work just not because of magic domain power anymore.

I don't think EMDs are really coming back. They can work in low competition niches, especially local stuff. But in most cases, content and backlinks matter more. The domain name alone won't do much if the site is weak. It's more about competition than anything else.

I think the discussion about exact match domains often overlooks the factor of inflated expectations. In 2022, an exact match domain could compensate for structural weaknesses for longer, but about six months ago, I saw that the situation had changed somewhat. Now, exact match domains don't build authority, but only clarify intent. Ultimately, they improve initial search query relevance, especially in highly specialized niches. But if the site architecture, link structure, and topic depth aren't aligned, the effect doesn't cumulatively accrue.

Hello almany2353, exact match domains definitely still have an edge in local and low competition niches. Like deadanchor mentioned, they are no longer a magic ticket to the top. You still need strong content and solid authority to hold those rankings long term against the recent updates
