are comment likes still relavent?

I remember a couple years ago, people would just add a lot of likes to a comment they've made on some viral post and then it would be the top comment and get traffic off of it.
Is it still a thing? 'cause that is what I just did, and I see the comment in the most recent comments but not in the top comments, although it is the most liked comment.

Sharing the commenting system and platform would help, they are not all the same you know. Maybe you need to add some replies as well, they could also be something that's getting factored into the equation.

i replied, to a post, on facebook. added likes to my comment and now it is supposed to be the top comment, but it's not...
