Are cheap aged domains worth trying?

If their stats and history are good. Then you can get it.

it depends on your goals. If you're trying to get into gambling / casino, or other tough niches the cheap domains won't cut it.
But otherwise, if you just want to rank faster in normal niches (like, I don't know, pets maybe... or toys, or memes, etc) the cheapest ones will do.
Many years ago I used Scrapebox' plugin for expired domains and in 30 minutes I found about 5-6 domains that were cheap ($5 a piece) and which also had decent stats (TF, RDs, DR, etc.) ... at least I liked those stats, probably that real experts would not bat an eye to such domains, but I don't care, I liked them
So anyway, it depends on what you're trying to do with that domain like I said, but lower stats ones should still work in certain cases (if they're clean and not abused that is, otherwise...)

Check their history first. Most probably such domains are used for spam.
