I found this auction:

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.de/viewitem?itemId=140905687452

It is in German, ok. OVP means the same as NIB.
So in fact he is selling a Macbook Air box.
On Jan 19 he added:"Box only, no Laptop" and one day later someone bids more than €500 for a box.

I mean, is it really that easy to make money on eBay? You can sell an empty box for hundreds of €????

the person can back out... and I believe ebay has a rule about this...

It is not really a scam, he says several times it is only "OVP" ...... which means original package
And on Jan 19 he says he won't send a laptop, it is a box only
And the next day some guy bids more than $500 for an empty box ...
I mean, can't they read? Or how could you fall for such shit?

Watch when the recieve the packaged they ll start bitching and probably do a charge back

Really cant blame thats blind....right?

Yes but I think he will get away with this.

Paypal won't refund the buyer because it is clearly stated that only a box for sale

Also if he gets negative feedback, if he contacts ebay they will have to remove it because he sent what has been promised.

Also the greatest joke, this is not the first time he did this, but he still has 100% positive feedback

Anyone wanna JV on this n see how it goes?

Yea u r right but if the buyer used a CC he/she can still charge back

there must be a rule about selling something in that category...a box doesn't belong in the category of computers > apple laptops...its just a box..it should categorized in miscellaneous or shipping products

this is a old method alot of people dont read at all, when he gets the box u will have some issues and if it was paid by CC refund for sure

I still think after the buyer opens a dispute, Paypal will refund it and prolly warn the seller or ban him if it's not the first time he had done this. I used to sell eBooks back in 09' some stupid buyers don't read the description and opens up a dispute saying they never got the book to their house. Like WTF dude read the description, but I had to give them the money back. Def. not a big sum like 500+, but I'm sure the buyer will get his refund.

This is a really old scam. Basically when the guy gets it, Paypal will refund him, the eBay seller will be banned and his Paypal account will be frozen.

Actually, he is not providing accurate information. Even though he is saying box only, he doesn't have the weight / dimensions correct just for the box thus ebay will favor the buyer's side.

This is how previous people have gotten caught doing this scam.

Back in the good old days of ebay, you could list a box for a phone, laptop, or camera. Box only here, no equipment... and about 1/3 people would pay close to retail. They obviously didn't read the description. I think some people did it just to piss off the seller.

When I say the good old days, I mean, when ebay/paypal had more of a "buyer beware" mentality. You didn't the description, it's your fault. It's certainly not the sellers fault. It is an open auction.

Unfortunatley, this guy is probably going to get an SNAD dispute on his account when the buyer receives it. It's going to end up being a giant waste of time for everyone involved.

EDIT: I didn't read all of the original post. Fortunately, this guy just has to file an SNAD dispute, or not even pay. :)

More importantly this should show everyone how important the picture of your listing is :)

Cheers,

Maybe its a collector's box? ;) Like now people are trying to collect Apple IIe memoribilia

People are not that smart and all it takes is a quick look at a picture and nice price.
Also this is pretty unethical even if their that stupid...
