Are 'Auto-blogs' still revelant?

Hello,
I was thinking on writing various scrapers that will scrape and generate content for ~100 automated sites. My problem is that I'm not really knowledgeable on how Google would deal with my sites today. As far as I remember Google did some kind of update, where social network status plays a big role in the ranking.

Are sites with scraped/rotated content still relevant today as they were 3 years ago, or has this phase passed already? Can I get some kind of decent traffic out of this?

An autoblog is a blog with content that is automatically gathered and compiled from RSS feeds. Autoblogging software does most of the work. The blog owner may not do much beyond selecting the specific feeds, determining schedules and selecting a few options.

The purpose of an autoblog is to generate search engine ad revenue. Because a single autoblog is not very lucrative, however, autoblog owners typically create multiple blogs on niche topics.
Autoblogging software provides the option to include a link back to the original content. Copying excerpts of original content, with attribution and a link back, is generally considered fair use. However, copying entire articles is illegal unless the content is in the public domain.

To get around copyright issues and avoid search engine penalization for duplicate content, autoblogging software includes the option to edit content. The software also usually includes a translation tool that can be used to translate foreign content. The feature is more often used, however, to alter content, a practice sometimes referred to as content spinning. The usual method is to translate content from the original language to a different one and then back again. The result will differ from the original content but will typically have odd phrasing and grammar and may not make much sense. Separate content spinning software is also available that has much the same effect.

Autoblogging and other approaches to making money with minimal effort are sometimes referred to as passive income generation.

Don't listen to the naysayers about this, you can still use auto blogs for some things but they will eventually get banned so you need to know they will pay for themselves in a short time. Most will use cloaking in conjunction with a splog
