Are Attention Spans Really Getting Shorter or Just More Selective?

Hey everyone,
There’s a lot of talk about people having shorter attention spans, but I’m starting to think audiences are just more selective about what they engage with. Quality still grabs attention, it just has to deliver fast.

What do you think?
Are short attention spans the real issue, or are we just dealing with smarter, more intentional audiences?

Curious to hear how you approach content that keeps people watching or reading longer.

I would say shorter attention spans, not that we don't have the ability to still focus, however there is just so much information and how we consume content now is way different than it was even 5-10 years ago

shorter and IQ lower. I see it every day, more or less as soon as I leave the house

Totally agree, attention spans aren’t shorter, people are just better at filtering low-value content. If something hooks them fast and actually delivers, they’ll stay. The real challenge now is earning attention early and keeping trust through clear storytelling or strong value. Quality still wins, just has to hit quicker.

It is due to the massive information the brain consumes, so yes the attention spans have become shorter indeed.
