I think he's referring to adding your sitemap to google's webmaster tools. Sites can get indexed anywhere from a few hours to several days. Not sure what the rate limiting factor is but make sure you ping it too. If it's just a page with little to no content it usually takes longer.

It really depends what kind of link you have. Some links are harder than others, especially forum profiles. It's also what you have done to get them indexed as well too. It can be anywhere from 5 mins to a month.

may be a few hours if you follow some basic things. like Face book posting then digging then Stumble upon.
