Hi, hoping to get some opinions on this.

Quite often I will find keywords where page 1 Google has returned the nearest results it has from that query rather than the specific KW. I'm always in 2 minds about these KW's and whether to go for them, and this has happened again today.

For example, my KW is along the lines of 'best TV under $1000'. However google first page is only returning 'best TV' articles from authority sites, or 'best TV under $500' from other sites, because it can't find a decent article based on my KW I guess.

I am tempted to go for this KW but I am put off by the fact there are at least 5 or 6 authority sites on page 1. Would this make this KW an automatic no go do you think?

Thanks

Any thoughts on this?

You should be able to rank for a long-tail keyword that doesn't have exact results in the search index. Google is of course recommending similar searches that have traffic volume and index-able results, but it's very likely once your link is up that people search for 'best TV under $500' will see your 'best TV under $1000' in time.

Also, forgot to add, take a look at the pages of the authority sites and follow a similar structure, word count, keyword density, ect
