Apple's M1 chip is insane

I've never had the urge to buy a Macbook as I feel its too expensive and you can always get an equivalent Windows machine for much cheaper... but I think they've done something really special with the M1 chips in the Macbook, particularly the Air. The benchmarks and reviews so far are impressive.

I wouldn't buy the "pro" because you get essentially the same package with the Air except for sustained workloads without throttling.. but even then, the Air can still get the job done for tasks like light photoshop and video editing. I can see why @ExperimentalSEO is excited and tbh the $1000 baseline M1 Macbook Air is the first Apple product that I feel might be worth it

I'm probably going to go with the macbook air with 7 core GPU version with ram upgraded to 16GB and 512GB of storage. I don't do enough video editing or other heavy tasks to benefit from the performance increase that the pro's fan offers.

Excellect compared to what?.....the price of a house?

There's no other laptop on the market that comes close in price for a similar level of performance and battery life in a slim form factor.

I still feel they charge too much for their ram and ssd upgrades but if you need them go for it!

The ssd options are around 4x the 970 evo's price. I'm not sure about the ram, since it is entirely different than regular even soldered on ram, since its integrated with the CPU/GPU/Neural Engine in a SoC.

Are they shipping laptops with heatsink anymore, or do we have to buy them separately?
I eventually sold my soul to the devil and bought a M1 mac (not a macbook though... bought a mac mini instead). Damn, I couldn't be happier. Those things are insanely fast and power efficient, I give you that apple.

p.s. sorry to bump this thread, but I thought apple deserves this. :)

Damn man you are making me greedy now. Yeah, an ipad and an iphone is on the cards for this year. Let me first get rid of the EMI I am paying for the mac mini lol.

Thanks for the update. I've literally been searching throughout today for BHW boys reviews on the project.

I will picking up the MacBook pro M1 working with my XPS . This would be my first time working with a MacBook.

Let wait and see how good this gets.

Not sure if you are serious. Don't you already have a mac? Hmmmmm i smell sarcasm lol.

The iPad Pro doesn't run Mac OS though.. so you'll still be a bit limited on what you can do with it.

Between that and the better keyboard it wins out, they must be planning a M1X chip for the 16" MacBook Pro and 27" iMac, if the M1 is also being used in an iPad.

Apple is setting up the devices to be reasonable to buy from each product line tbh.

I decided to give macs a try and got a MacBook air m1 yesterday. The build quality is amazing and the screen is the best I have seen. Even if is not the fastest laptop I think this was a good decision. I have used windows for 15 years.
