Apple's M1 chip is insane

It's something like a 120mm^2 package size, the cpu in the Mac Pro has a 4294mm^2 package size, they have a lot of room to work with to make an ARM chip replacement for the Mac Pro
I agree they will make an arm chip for the desktops but the more immediate gains here will be for their laptop line where the Intel chips were no longer a good fit for Apples hardware, especially on the high end side.

How I'm I brainwashed? I have never been an apple fanboy.
It's just I would get a 66% improvement in processing power and a 900% improvement in battery life by switching to the macbook air from my current gaming laptop.
Okay let's see. 66% improvement vs what? Is it single core speed? How about thermal throttling?

Great man, keep using it. Ultimately, what matters is productivity. If it works for you, why not?

I do hope you would be able to overclock it with some water cooling. :)

Well, relax man. They are brainwashed, and they won't able to comprehend what you are saying. :D

I value every hour I'm able to sleep. Then I wake up and see the news, people on a line at 5AM to buy some stupid shit from Apple. They'd need to pay me U$ 100k to get my ass off my bed under snow cold to go stand on a line somewhere.

It's good for now, but once I can start traveling again I will make the switch.

Oh look Apple released an overpriced chromebook with a mobile phone processor and maximum 16 GB RAM.
The first units have started to arrive. The new MacBooks are faster in some cases than the top of the line $5k intel Xeon Mac Pro. I have a feeling this comment will not age well.

I have a feeling this is going to change computers in the future once other manufacturers (amd, etc) catch up with this technology. Call me a fanboy but it seems to me Apple did it again.

A custom SOC like the M1 would be really good for the Panasonic toughbook line; would get 40-50 hours of battery life and the weight savings would allow for a portable solar panel to be carried for extended in field use.

I am confident there will be some catch. Apple is famous for that these days.

Two groups you never mess with:

- Star trekkies
- Apple fanboys

I made a mistake.
