apparently I have no backlinks?

I never really understood backlinks. I know only do*follow backlinks help you in rankings, but I submitted a five spoke linkwheel yesterday, then pinged all of the articles, and checked my backlinks today and it said I have 0. I did social bookmarking, still 0. I've done blog commenting, still 0. My site isn't indexed either though I'm less worried about this sense it is 2 days old. I have submitted XML site maps and have a 4 page website with a few unique posts on it. So what's the deal? I'm very new to this and can't seem to find a direct answer anywhere. Thanks for any help guys!

Be patient. You will have to wait to see your BL indexed. Kepp doing what your doing now and you shall see that your BL will appear and will push your SERP's up when you don't expect to. Just don't loose your hope and keep working. ;)

Can take more time then that. Your soonest backlinks that show will show up will probably be the social bookmarks, they tend to get noticed pretty quick. It can be a few weeks or more before all your blog comments will get noticed.

Also I'm pretty sure nofollow links help too so don't feel you have to avoid them completely and only be going for do*follow

I do articles and social bookmarking as well. Hoping to earn 3$ a day for a long time with my new niche site. The only problem is being indexed. Hopefully that'll be soon. thanks for the help again!
 
Try not to confuse yourself with getting your backlinks indexed. Im betting you pinged google with your backlink location but your probably using yahoo site explorer to find out how many backlinks you have. This is the wrong way to go about it

also dont expect links to be indexed in a day id had lists of 1000s that i ping on one day check the next day and id be lucky to get 15 indexed. But in the end doing this you will get points where they pick up 300 in one go. As said just be patient
 
Let the BLs to come to you, if you know what I mean. This way the whole process of linkbuilding will look more natural.

patience is virtue mate.. wait around 2 - 3 weeks before your backlinks become visible.. :)
 
You need to be patient buddy. It will take at least about 20 days for even the good book marking sites to show up as a backlink.

It might take even longer to show up in backlink checkers but you will start seeing SERP movements only after at least 20 - 25 days.
