My Android/Google Play Experience

Got my first account banned for IP/copyright infringement. Why? Not exactly sure since they don't tell you. Only thing I can figure is on one of them it was too similar to a baseball team logo (I'd stay away from any graphics remotely similar to sports team's).

Had about 12 apps making about $2,000-$3,000 a month solely off of admob revenue. Got bored with it and never ramped it up.

All I did was buy some installs and reviews and the rest took care of itself.

After my account got banned my ad revenue slowly went down since I wasn't getting new installs. I modified 2 of my best apps and added them to my other business account and my revenues are back up to over $2K a month from it. Now if I would just make more when I have some down time I could probably get even bigger revenues.

I've found Android to be easy to make money off of. It's just a matter of finding apps that are profitable. I just happened to get lucky on my first few apps and it was easy to churn out more apps similar to them.

Google bans accounts easily so be careful. They're really frustrating to deal with since Google and customer service seem to be mutually exclusive unless your buying ads from them.

Total investment price per app was around $40.
Great motivation. My team is been digging android programming for last couple of month and we will be launching our first app this week. Would love to hear more about marketing like, from where did you buy the installs, any suggestion for low competitive category etc.
Cheers

Nice thread.

Here's my personal experience with a few hints/info:

In the last few weeks I've looked into Google Play store and android apps. Even though the game niche is highly saturated, there are so many people downloading them, so there's money to be made.

I invested in a few tools
- A wacom intrius tablet drawing tool. This is for drawing game characters and environments, and just general messing about.
- Artrage 4. For use with the intrius, to draw really unique game art quickly
- Spriter. A 2D animation program. Really fun, and can easily make character animations from artrage images
- Clickteam fusion. A drag n drop game maker. Android exporter - includes chartboost and leadbolt modules. iOS exporter. Developer upgrade.
- Joined up with Chartboost (I'm banned from Adsense and admob .. bastards!)

All in all, these cost a total of about $500. I treated them all as treats for myself, but I do have some interesting game ideas and now I can easily realise them. I also have the oppurtunity to make apps for offline businesses now too , so I'm pretty confident i'll make that money back with time.

I've got 3 or 4 apps in the store, gotten a few thousand downloads already with very little work, and cross promoting apps (easy with chartboost), and have facebook like buttons in all apps which is slowly building a following.

There are other programs out there - drag and drop type that make app dev easy, not necessarily game apps but just general apps. Whether this produces a high quality app is debatable.. but this is blackhatworld.

One plan I have is
-Make 5 game types (for example, pong type, brick type, flappy bird type, infinite runner type, helicopter in cave type)
-Make 10 sets of characters of celebrities (justin bieber, one direction, miley cyrus, etc.)
-Make 50 apps from these, all free with ads, get reviews, get downloads, get ranked, get more FB followers.

If nothing else it would be interesting to see how much this would generate. It's very scalable. Others are doing this and have 50,000 , 100,000 etc. downloads per app.

I must be overlooking something. I downloaded the DOOM code from the website below (#26) but it dont have the images or anything. Is it supposed to? I have an idea to redo it but have no clue what to do if it dont come with images.

Code:

Jericho, would you mind breaking down where that 40 dollars went? I have been talking to a few designers and even if I buy source code to reskin, each app will still cost me a few hundred dollars for designs and implementation.

Also, were your apps unique or just reskins? I am in the process of trying out both.

Thanks for your time =)

$5 for fiverr graphics
$35 for installs/ratings/reviews

Now that I think about it I may have spent more than that on some of the apps but my most recent apps I reuploaded I've spent maybe $20 each since I did the graphics myself.

These are not reskins but simple apps I created but they are slightly reskinned apps of themselves to make new apps.

An example of one of my apps was a popular baseball team app that pulled different RSS feeds for things like news, scores, etc and had a chart of upcoming games. I wouldn't suggest doing a specific team app unless you stay away from anything remotely similar to the teams graphics. They're super anal.

Just an update on another app I just had suspended this time for spam. Only thing I can figure out is I used a keyword in the description twice. I just changed another description to hopefully avoid this since they're short descriptions. It wasn't intentional to keyword stuff it just flowed with the description but I'm guessing that if your description is short it will be seen as stuffing.

Great motivation. My team is been digging android programming for last couple of month and we will be launching our first app this week. Would love to hear more about marketing like, from where did you buy the installs, any suggestion for low competitive category etc.

Honestly, I'm probably the worst person to ask about competition. I've never checked out the competition. I take more of a shotgun approach and see what sticks.

I used to buy the installs from here but the guy got banned I believe. Right now I get everything from fiverr. Not sure how long that will hold up though.

I'd also like to say, don't be short-sighted on this. You don't have to just create game apps or other types of apps for people to download. You can create apps for small businesses. It's very lucrative and they just eat them up. They pretty much sell themselves.

I don't like dealing with customers but on the ones I did sell that were from templates, I would average about $750 for android and $1000-$1500 for Apple. I probably spent a couple of hours on all the work per app. Graphics usually came from their website.

I would sometimes bundle services together and sell them on a monthly plan for $300+ a month which is easier to swallow. And seeing that I was posting the apps to my accounts I had control over them if they didn't pay me.

I was really planning from so long to start this, your thread motivated me. I have a question:

I currently don't own any Apple Products right now, but as you mentioned I only need iPhone and iPad for getting started, because I will be getting most of the work done from the developers. I want to know if I will have to buy the latest iPhone (i.e iPhone 5s/c) and latest iPad to get started on this? What I can do is, I can buy iPhone 4 that is too old and then iPad mini, (low on budget really) I don't see any issue with iPad mini but do iPhone 4 which doesn't get much used can give a little problems need your views on this.

I am professionally a UI/UX Designer and I am pretty good, I can design my own apps but I want to know about hiring a developer, what all things shall I look for if I am hiring someone on those freelancing sites?

You need ipod4 and 5 to test your apps. App works in ipods similar like iphones. Dont buy ipad, unless you have good budget. you can also buy used ipads through ebay.

While hiring devs, hire them from third world countries, they charge $8 - $15 per hour. Obviously check their ratings in freelancer and odesk.

Hello Big Buddy I am interested in your YT views package can you write me PM

which ad network are you using?Just Admob?

After reading this thread I went on to create some Facebook Campaigns and here is what i got:
facebookcampaign.PNG
You can see that I am generating installs at Rs1.5 or $0.02 :)

How to target fb ads for app like fappy bird ?

From what I can tell anyone can use your code and just re-skin?
Good info, think it's back to white board for me.
Better now than later.

Quality thread brother BB . . . Thanks for sharing this useful info! :)

This is epic BB, been pondering about app development for some time now, nice to have it all laid our like this! Thanks for sharing man.

How can you be sure that your developper won't take the source code and then publish his own version of app that he create for you?
