Anyone know of a way to track down an approximate source for downloads? I have an iPhone app and have seen a consistent number of downloads and then 2 days ago started getting about 2,000 downloads a day and am trying to find the source to duplicate with my other apps.

I tried to do a search for the iTunes link, but am not seeing anything new that I don't know about. What tricks do you have up your sleeves to find out the source?

Go on flurry and install their free analytics. You will find some more data for your app.

Already tried to google the name of your app or the link to your app? Search on Twitter?

I do have flurry installed but from what I can tell I am only able to see user behaviour after the app is installed but not how they got to it. I did perform some google and twitter searches but turned up empty handed. I did however look through my app figures numbers and found that I got pretty high up in a couple of categories and am assuming that is where the majority of my downloads stemmed from. I will keep digging through my flurry analytics though to see what other golden nuggets I can find.

If you run ads you know who downloaded the app but from free ways it's not possible as far as I know.

are you advertising at all? are you just paying for installs? or are these DLs just from throwing your app on the appstore?

I do advertise through many different avenues (The app is free so I didn't make $2,200 in one day, although that would have been nice). However, the reason I asked was because I hadn't marketed that particular app for about a month when the downloads spiked. They have since returned to their normal rate.
