AP Environmental Science class actually gave me an idea

I fucking hate APES (AP Environmental Science)

But it's gave me a realization.

Specifically the Climate change unit. Consider this, the climate is changing, which could be classified as a disaster, businesses can make money off of disasters.

Okay so to sum it up, climate change can cause

• Altered Precipitation patterns (storm surges getting worse, storms, hurricanes, scary shit)
• Shift areas where we grow crops
• Raising the sea level due to polar ice cap melting
• Shift in habitats for organisms

Focusing on the first bullet point, what if a business made shelters throughout the world, specifically by coastal areas where the altered precipitation patterns would affect the most, cause of estuary systems and shit. These would be heavily reinforced shelters designed to withstand some of the worst damage a storm, or storm surge or shit would throw at it.

Of course this project would cost an ungodly amount of money, but the shelters would be luxurious, only affordable to people willing to pay the big bucks. This (in my opinion) isn't "wrong" because at that point in time only the wealthy or complete fucking idiots would be living by or in coastal areas, because they're able to afford it. Can't put a price on it just yet cause I have no idea how inflation would work in that time period and I'm not an economist.

Commercials would be made around the hurricane season just to get it rolling in peoples head. I learned of a concept in AP psychology (lol) or maybe just an idea to where people tend to buy more into what they see more often if that makes sense (not a teacher, just trying to sum it up how I know it). Like if I see Pepsi commercials constantly, and I go into a store, it's more likely for me to buy pepsi than a sprite.

Although it's not like the business would have competition (I don't think) repeated exposure to it could bring in business. Now that I think of it, maybe the commercials would only be broadcasted more locally to the coastal areas.

Just an idea i had while studying for this fucking test.

Open to criticism or anything you guys have to say, this idea could also be complete shit, don't know. Maybe by that time houses would start having greatly reinforced walls and roofs and foundations to withstand that type of stuff, who knows.

I loved my APES class back in the day (2007). Back then I wanted to be either a writer or a meteorologist, so I was fascinated with weather. Which was great, as my teacher was in the same boat, and he was so enthusiastic about it that the rest of the class got into it as well.

I swear we spent 50% of that total class time talking about either the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane season, storm chasing, and other natural disasters.

Regarding your idea, I definitely think the cost would outweigh any benefit or profit. People with enough money to pump it out for a storm shelter reservation likely either have a well-reinforced home or the ability to bail before shit hits the fan.

Thanks for the input, definitely agree with you, just wanted to get others opinions.

Im loving APES (Im taking it right now) as it is one of my easy weighted A's. I agree, people would pay a large sum for that shelter as billionaires are spending millions are bomb shelters.

I agree. However if you were to make it support only the necessities of life for a week or less, cheap enough for the average joe/family caught in a storm or more importantly worried about being caught in a storm. Then you might have a more marketable/profitable idea. I would avoid the posh target and market a "survival bin". Their only expectation should be to survive. It would cost more than a hotel while offering the best chance at survival here, now & during the disaster!

Regarding ice caps melting... If all the ice in the world melted, the sea level would be raised by 230 feet.

The thing about "climate change" is that the world is on two cycles that we are being quietly lied to about. One is the glacial/inter-glacial period, which is about a 26,000 year cycle. We happen to have very recently passed the height of this cycle, if looked at as an oval, in 2012 (if I remember the exact year correctly). We are actually on our way back down, into a cooler period.
