I don't hear or read too much about people making money with cost per impression ads on their website. AdSense seems to be the popular choice. Is CPM not worth it?

I'm thinking about testing some CPM networks to see how they do compared to AdSense. Is anyone having success using CPM ads on their website? How would a site with around 1,500 visitors and 2,500-3,300 page views per day do? I am also going to guess Google will not let you use AdSense with this, so it would be one or the other.

I think you need a pretty big/ large traffic site to have a decent $$$ on CPM as usually it is pay per 1000 impressions. Would also like to know how many people have had success as I would like some on my site.

Paid per 1,000 impressions wouldn't be that bad depending on the payout. You don't hear many people on this site talking about CPM.

Unless your site is having impressions in 100k's and predominantly from the US / CAN / UK, most of the CPM's will pay will very less.

Couldnt agree more.. Most of the cpm networks will let you sign up only if you have like 500k unique visits per month.

I came across buysellads.com and tried to apply for that, but it seems like your first site if you are new to them needs to have over 100k impressions per month.

I did just receive an email from somebody wanting me to call them to discuss advertising on my site. They said they have text ads similar to AdSense, so I imagine they want to place text ads on it. Whether they pay per click or per impressions is not known yet.

Any suggestions on pricing to negotiate for? Any tips will help before contacting them.

If you don't have a lot of traffic don't lose your time. Better try the old way: Adsense ads, that pay on click. On average an advertiser pays a CPM network around 1 - 1.5$/thousand impressions. Now, if an advertiser pays that money to get some people to see his site, what money do you think you will get, for being a publisher? Less than that, obvious. In my opinion is not worth it.

For 1000 impressions you can say say them as 1$ , because I saw in buysellads 0,30$ / 1000 impression . But it also depends on how your ad places is converting , if you think your ad placement is very good and converts like a charm from your early experiences , you can mention about it and demand little more price. As you see it is again coming to CPC traffic , since he will calculate from your CTR his own CPC i.e. how much visitors he can gain from your 1000 impressions..

Give it a try for one month and tack your results good , also in next month you can understand from his willingness to higher or lower the price again.
    good luck.

I know Perez Hilton does CPM with Blogads.. But he has some huges numbers going to his site... To get #1 spot on his site will cost an advertiser 40k per week... So if you can get some big companies with billion dollar budgets to pay that kind of money then it's well worth it (and teach me how you did it! :) )
