Anyone Using Call Centers to Sell Their SEO Services

Hi guys, I have a few different services that I have been trying to sell to local businesses. I usually try to pitch web design as my entry level service and upsell them on other things after I've landed them. I've primarily been cold calling and despite hating it with a passion, I have been able to land a couple of clients this way. The problem that I've run into is that I have suspended my marketing/calling efforts as I've worked with these clients, hence the frantic need to go back to calling several days later.

What I would really like to do is hire someone to actually do the calling. I would like to focus more on the SEO services as it is the higher ticket service that I can charge a recurring fee on and of course could take in fewer clients rather than more since I pitch the websites in the neighborhood of $500. I don't have a massive budget to throw at this, but I'm willing to spend some cash on it for a couple of months to see if I can get things moving in the right direction by selling the bigger ticket services rather than chasing new web design clients.

I've heard that some people are doing pretty well by using call centers to bring in new clients. I'm contemplating hiring a few people to make the first round of calls for me. Is anyone else using call centers to sell services in this way? If so, do you have them calling 30-40 hrs a week for you consistently? Do you find them to be as or more effective than hiring say a "sales person?"

What you're looking for is more of a telemarketing service. You can find many by searching Google for "Small business telemarketing" or something along those lines. You basically contract with them and they have someone handle everything for you. The service is pretty cool because they basically give you a secretary and salesperson. But, I think it may be pricey, and will require a bit more upfront cost then you may want to use. Certainly more than $500. As far as I know, these services usually offer 24/7 service since so many people have different schedules.

Better idea would be to find someone who wants to make some extra money on CL and pay them like 8.00 an hour to do it for ya. You get to actually sit down with the person and explain how you want them to work for you. They 100% are yours for their scheduled time, so have them do anything.

Thanks DSMPowah! Yeah, I made a few calls to price some of these centers and they certainly aren't cheap just in case someone else is looking for similar info. The heavy hitters had a minimum investment of $50k for a test run over so many months.

A very small co I was working for ran into the same decision, hire or use a call center. We did both and ran a split test and found that if we paid the salesman a good comm they did better than the call center did..

I like qualcomms idea use CL and teach them your way.

The issue with using CL is that you will get someone that is not invested in your company, that has no idea what they are doing (most likely) and that will bolt at the first sign of not making the money they think they will.

In addition, if YOU don't know how to do calling, or you don't like it, or you suck at it...etc. How do you expect to train them to be successful?

Leave it to those that have done it for years and know what to do. If you don't know how to do something, hire someone that does and you'll save yourself tons of trouble by trying to skimp.

That can be true, but most college kids who answer those ads are willing to enjoy not being in front of a grill all day, lol. I've hired 2 college students before and it was great. Paid $8.00 an hour + gas if they needed to run an errand for me. They did everything with me, and never complained once.

Do you want a college kid representing your business or a professional that does it day in and day out for years? I say hire a professional, then once they make your business boom, you have them train a college kid to add.

Well, yes I see your point. But, OP obviously doesn't have the budget to be paying a professional salesman. Sometimes you have to buy cheaper and try and make it work well.

Do it right, or don't do it. There are plenty of options besides hiring someone that has no clue. This is your business we're talking about.

If it was me...

I'd hire the $8 college student... Then ask him which college he goes to... Call up the principle and offer them a deal whereby you give them a nice cut in return for exposure in their college yearbook/mail outs/website advertising... If that works then roll it out to other schools and colleges... Get them to quote a reference code so you know where the lead came from... it'll also act as credibility.
