Anyone else using Blogspot besides just for splogs? I'm curious if anyone is creating some niche blogs with Blogger that aren't just auto-post blogs?

I have some Automated Blogger/blogspot blogs that are still going strong, but I kept seeing Blogspot links in Google SERPS over and over, all the time, so I started building some to test things out.

I'm wondering what others are doing or have noticed.

Any Blogger advice, tricks, or tips anyone wants to give out? Like I said, I have s small collection of automated RSS blogs I set up not to long ago just for some link juice, but that's really all I've done with Blogger until recently.

My early tests have done okay, but maybe not as well as I thought they would. I keep seeing these things in SERPS and Google seems to love them.

Any BHW tips for Blogger/blogspot anyone wants to throw at me?

The thing to take into consideration is that both of these sites are FREE publication portals. One of the reasons why Google appears to love them is because people actually use them the right way and put large amounts of good content onto sites within the domain. Might be a bit of cognitive dissonance going on.

The design of these websites is, at it's foundation at least, also linear and homogeneous, which very well may have a positive weight in Google.

blogspot was penalized along with .info int he last dramatic google episode so probaly not a good idea to use it for anytying other than landing pages. it's funny tht google penalizes one of their own sites...

See, that is what everyone says yet my research and small tests so far seem to indicate otherwise.

Sometimes info like this just gets spewed so often at forums that everyone starts to repeat it and no one bothers to actually see if it's true.

Agreed. I guarantee there is no empirical evidence that would verify any of these major Google slaps. Algorithms simply don't work like that. .info is a TLD, nothing else. Blogspot is a website, nothing else.

Anyone read Grizzly Brears? I got some of my ideas for Blogger/Blogspot from his blog. Other stuff I picked up long the way. Like I said, I thought things would be a little better than they are, but they haven't been bad and I haven't done anything major.

I agree, there is no evidence that Google likes something just because it's a certain platform.

But, I sure came across a lot of blogspot results in SERPS, especially for long tail keywords.

google it and you'll see that .info was dropped from the index for 24 hours a couple of weeks ago. google does discriminate against domains. they would never have accidentally dropped .com!

i can't remember where i read about blogspot but there's a lot of spam in it now which is the rationale for penalizing it...
