I just got a 300Mbps connection to my house, and I was thinking of buying a small tower server, and use it to run all my seo tools from, and maybe even use it to backup my sites in case of disk errors on my hosted server.
Has anyone done this? If so, is it worth it? Any problems you have ran into? I was thinking of getting a windows server with the xeon e5 processor. What does everyone think?

I never done this !!! In India u cant get fast internet speed !!!

Considering Spam is illegal in most countries and BH tools create a lot of spam, I wouldn't want to keep it in my house.

you will have problems with your isp
for too much download traffic also spam.
Anyone can get a dedicated server core i5 for 19,99 € / month
and install debian and vmware to run a few windows vps

Well, I use proxies for all my programs. Also I have been running GSA ser and programs like that from my home computer for year with no problem. Where can you get a dedicated server for $30? Most dedicated servers that are cheap like that do not have enough RAM to run the program and they have slow speeds like less than 100Mbps.

So nobody has done it?

Yeah it's fine. Just don't rush things, like forgetting to put in fresh proxies etc and you're fine. If you want to take the extra step, get a solid VPN and run all your traffic through that. An alternative is get a really cheap linux VPS and install OpenVPN on that, then run traffic there.

Yes I use my spare laptop for that purpose. It runs all the time :) I've attached it with teamviewer. So, anytime I can access it.

where is it? for that cheap price...

They are probably talking about cheap French providers like OVH or Online.net

Debian and VMware? VMware doesn't even run on Debian, they use their own distro for ESXi.

If you do want to setup VM's, it would be best to use either Proxmox or ESXi.

Code:
kimsufi.com
you can get a dedicated server from 4,99 € with dedicated resources.

I checked that site and it looks like its a VPS server not a dedicated server. And they are really limited. Plus I can't read that language so I would never do business with that company.
