Anyone try Absinthe before?

I've tried it many times and I cannot stand the taste.

Lower potency versions are legal in the states now. I was shocked to find it at Bev Mo. Like pofecker, I can't stand the taste. If you like black licorice, go for it, otherwise your money is best spent elsewhere.

It's pretty lethal stuff originally made by the makers of Pernod in France. It taste a bit like Pernod (anisseed). Good absinthe contains Thujone and is claimed to act like cannabis.

It is siad that great artists and writers used it but not sure about black hatters maybe try it on a good day off.

It gives you the mother of all hangovers. Best drunk with water and not neat!

Anyway hope that helps Logan Fils is the very best but don't expect much change out of $150 and this is not cheap booze.

My brother and I bought this stuff, http://www.originalabsinthe.com/absinthe-king-gold-p-56.html?azx=1280

It wasnt the BEST tasting stuff in the world, kind of a mix between 151 and Jager. Potent as hell tho, made one of our buddies gag after he had already taken shots of other stuff, lol. Just be careful, we got really wasted off of it and didnt realize that towards the end of the bottle we were actually eating some of the wood worm at the bottom of the bottle, that shit wasnt good, lol. Dont waste your time with the stuff in the US though, its not worth it. If your gonna do get the King Of Spirits!

BTW, what you want to look for is a high Thujone count, thats the stuff that gets you all jacked up, lol!

Oh yea, we drank it a few ways. We poured a shot, and then got a spoon and put a little sugar cube on the spoon, poured absinthe over the cube and lit it, so it basically dripped into the absithe, my buddy did it that way and he said it wasnt bad. I just did shots of it...aaaaaaaaaaand that definitely worked out ok, lol. We bought this Glass cup thing with a straw on it and a seperate little bowl to pour the absinthe in, I think you were suppose to melt the sugar over that, we didnt use it though.

I think it tastes a lot like Sambuca. Both basically have a distinct licorice flavor to them. And I agree, it does have a tendency to give you a hell of a headache the next day.

Ah, the good ol' days.

I got a bottle of the real stuff when I was over in Praha which was 80%. We were meant to split it between 6 of us before we went out clubbing but 4 pussied out and I ended up drinking half the bottle. Needless to say I do not remember much after getting chucked out the biggest club in Prague. Although I did manage to direct my buddy back to the hostel, fuck knows how though.

Last part of the night I remember was trying to explain to some hot French chick what fanny baws was :D

Oh, and the hang over was unlike anything I have ever experienced before, it was hell. Didn't stop me from going out that night and having a few cocktails though.

I would highly recommend. Try it with water and sugar, just soak the sugar in it and light it on fire. I had roughly a 3-1 water to absinthe ratio if that helps.

It's definitely out of this world, you have to travel to the Czech Republic to get Absinthe that contains the compound thujone which is what makes you hallucinate. The other variants have green food coloring and anise and a huge alcohol content which will fuck you up but not in the traditional way. I swear I saw VanGogh after a few shots...

Poets used to drink it in the olden days.
Poets were also often thought to be mad...

tsp

The "Green Fairy"

If it tastes anything like Sambouka (sp) keep me the fuck away from it.

Wait come to think of it I tried a shot of some freshmen year of college.

All I remember was it wasn't appetizing at all.

It was fairly strong though.

I'd like to go to Europe and get the good stuff :)
