anyone try 1&1 for domains and hosting?

I cant beleive how much bad comments there are about them! As I said their admin panel is slow and you ring their support and its a bit like they're reading straight from the FAQ, but they aren't that bad - if the DNS doesnt change, just give them a ring and it will be done in a few hours.

Honestly, I have shit loads of domains with them, external domains, hosted domains, MX repoints, email, hosted exchange and I find them to be ok.

I have used GoDaddy, Justhost, 123-reg, UK2, easily, heart and none of them were as good to me.

Must admit, I havnt used hostwinds, Im sure they are good:) but 1and1 suit me fine!!

When I started out I used their hosting. Then I did not know any better. The control panel is horrible, as many already mentioned. I still host those domains with them, as the overall hosting price was quite cheap, and I am just too lazy to move those domains.

I am very satisfied with Hostgator, what I am using now already for about a year or so. The support is excellent, the hosting panel is great (=cPanel), but they are not as cheap as some other companies that offer cpanel hosting.
 
I got myself committed to a 12 month hosting and will move as soon as I can, they have given me nothing but headaches and simply refuse to help with anything as they just refer you to some irrelevant crap.

On the plus side I had an hours downtime on a site that was not even live and they gave me an extra month free but the advice is look elsewhere.
 
I agree with some mate that has given you advice on keeping registering and hosting with different companies.
In any case, both 1and1 and GoDaddy are not in my list for any purpose.
 
In your opinion instead of 1and1 and GoDaddy, what domain services do you recommend?

i only heard bad things about them , bad enough that i never used them for any of my domains needs...
 
Hi, I'm using 1&1 EU (based in Germany) for a year now, they are very cheap (1&1.com is different, price is higher)

My review: performance is excellent for the price, but you better know how to setup a server if you take a VPS because there is NO support :(

I had some problems installing Magento on their VPS, had to install a bunch of things manually (I couldn't run it since Magento needs php 5.2 with mcrypt and mhash to run properly, and the VPS comes with php 5.1 - I got many problems updating it)
But still I find the service great, if you mess up with your server setup, you can just reset it.

use namecheap for domains
I've had a 1&1 vps for past 8 months and it's a good server, no probs and they are lenient on complaints but i never had to deal with support so couldn't tell you how that is
