I used to post in niche subreddits for traffic, but moderation is getting stricter. How do you promote links now without instant bans?

Unmoderated subs are like the last line of entry/defense.
Seasoned aged accounts work well, but depending on subs and account age you can still get by.
Official Reddit ads have changed as well, that is the interesting part.

You need to attract traffic persuasively, without looking like you’re selling something. Create posts or comments that spark curiosity, make users check your Reddit profile, and that’s where your link sits naturally. You don’t post the link directly; your profile becomes the bridge. If your content and vibe are interesting enough, the click happens on its own

Share real value first and then link carefully, because Reddit now scans and penalizes direct advertising posts heavily.

Avoid spamming multiple subs at once; one post at a time is safer.

Honestly, subreddits got stricter for a reason. Best way now is to engage first comment, help out, build rep. Then drop links sparingly and only when it’s truly relevant. Straight-up spamming gets you banned fast. Or look into building your own group or community outside Reddit.

Creating a brand and dropping brand mentions instead of links helps. It takes time but if a user finds a brand name multiple times from multiple accounts with upvotes and positive feedback, it'll leave an impression.

Yeah plenty of free traffic from reddit still
When I'm working on a money site, I do the post manually. Might boost with some early votes to break through to the sub home page but otherwise organic votes by crafting a post that I know the reddit hivemind is gonna upvote.
For throaway sites / just indexing, you can automate and post whatever, you just need the bots to catch it. For money sites I do it manually
