Anyone recommend some good (and up-to-date) WPMU plugins?

Hi,

I have been working with WPMU (Wordpress 2.6.5-based version) a lot lately and there are a few plugin recommendations I am trying to find for my install.

1. Best site-wide admin-configurable plugin for ad networks (AdSense and so on), one that rotates the ad code and inserts via the plug's tag in themes.

2. Best antispam for protecting comments. I don't want my autoblogs delisted for having comment spam.

3. Best way to use pingcrawl and linkcurl and similar plugs with sitewide control on WPMU.

Hmmmm....any other plugin recommendations or advice for WPMU also appreciated!

Why dont you read some of the threads on this page.
There are umpteen threads with umpteen plugins to cover every eventuality.

OMFG are you kidding me?! Think before you reply to a post. First of all almost all of the plugs on this forum are not MU plugins, they are wordpress plugins. Do you know even know the difference?!

There truly are a gajillion plugins out there. Am I going to kill myself trying every hobbyist programmer attempt at an adsense and spam plugin if someone can recommend a good one? This forum is here so we don't all duplicate our research and waste gobs of time doing something ridiculous.

I have done sooooooooooooooo much research and tried so many configs that I am in physical pain from the stress. I have been living wordpress and im so much that I saw Google in my dreams last night.

Does anyone have a legitimate reply?

That package is great, but sadly missing the important premium MU sitemaps generator plugin.

Anybody have that one handy?

Actually the bulk of regular Wordpress plugins also work on MU for individual blogs, it's mainly when you are doing sitewide stuff things are different. Same with regular WP themes working on MU blogs, it's only your home theme that will need some simple tweaks to work.

So.. Do you want a sitewide sitemap, or one for individual blogs?

I never bother with .XML sitemaps on any site, they are counter productive for me so i have not got one on my MU sites either.

I have been reading some posts on wpmu forum about possibly not needing sitemaps for wpmu....I don't really understand why. How do you get them indexed? Also, why would it be counter-productive? (I'm building autoblog farms, should I gen sitemaps?)

If you submit to social bookmarking sites do the spiders just come regularly and index the site regardless?

Well, for the most part my SEO is pretty WH and geared towards long-term but on the odd occasion i pull out all the stops.

With .XML sitemaps, they have no effect on rankings, they don't pass PR, they are still no guarantee your pages will be indexed and with parallel testing i've found Googlebot will generally hit new content faster with a regular ping.

It's better to create a flat site architecture, meaning the least clicks from any page to any other page on your site as possible. This helps spread the PR/Authority through your site, and makes it easier to crawl.

To help index MU you can put a dynamic list of the last 10 updated blogs on your home page, and on individual blogs. Put the latest 20 posts URL's on your home page. Put a related posts plugin on your individual blogs, and create a sitewide tags page like Wordpress.com which links everything up pretty good. If you want to see one of the MU's i'm working on now let me know and i will PM it to you so you can get some ideas.

Alexander, the MU = Multi-User meaning you can create numerous blogs with the one install just like Wordpress.com

Wordpress MU is a multi user blog system. You can use it to host your own blogger type site.

That was an epic overview! I totally need to figure out how to get my homepage set up that way...I had actually been pondering what I would do with the homepages anyway. It seemed like an affiliate target page would be good. Combining both sounds great!

Thanks, with my homepage it's "very" white hat and looks like a really clean professional site similar to Wordpress.com

I've done this on purpose, the idea is to replicate a legit multi-user environment. See when one of the spammy subs pops up on G's radar, if the whole site looks like a spam network it will get wiped out. If it looks like some user signed up and made a spammy blog hopefully just that sub will go. Wordpress, Blogger etc have this "problem" with spammy blogs too so my site is no different in that sense.

I usually toss some non-monetized blogs in to the mix, or even a "Flag Blog as Spam" feature to look the part even though they are all my blogs lol.
