I just opened up my spam folder, 99% of the time I don't bother reading through it and Empty All, however this little gem caught my eye. Interestingly enough the password was a variation of an old password I used many moons ago, hilarious all the same.

PS: I don't own a webcam....

Well isn't he just charming? Drives a hard bargain too! Seen similar emails to that but not sure how much leverage they really have.

It's not like he recorded you watching porn (and then complimenting on the good taste of porn?) .... :D

They usually get emails/passwords for "blackmails" from DB leaks, you can check if your email was in some data breach https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Its done on autopilot, 0 reasons to worry.

Every time I see someone post this kind of email I check BTC wallet to see if anyone actually paid. Found one with 10 payments of 800$ each. Its easy for us but not so tech savvy people can get scared and actually pay it.

Many people receive these daily for like a year now in slightly re-worded version. You can find several threads even on BHW about this. Just ignore it.

sounds like scam but u said he know ur password? lol

It was a variation of an old password. It is not concerning in the least, rather hilarious to be fair folks still employ this method to try make money online.

Scammers get the email password combos from leaked databases of compromised sites. Some of that data is very old and those combos are not in use anymore in many cases. That's how they know, and if you think about it a bit, it's a pretty neat trick, because it makes their story a lot more believable.

btw OP most webcams have flash lights that automatically turn on when you launch camera you would realize

very common, Ignore. Prob. your email is amipawned

I've seen many variations of this Email over the years, just not one containing my actual password before (albeit very old). You're spot on, as others have pointed out I checked my Email out on https://haveibeenpwned.com/, apparently I was "compromised" by a fair few companies.

Ask him if he likes your D.
Don't mind thoes stupid emails they should make u laugh. There is a lot of people that receive thoes type of emails including me. I don't read them anymore.:D

Not necessarily, people can capture webcam without turning the light on through rat or malware. But this is not the case with OP - it's just spam :p

If I were you I'd report this email. I'm sure that many fall for it who don't have to do anything related to technology.

Even if they are young and know some about tech, the email is written very great and many people can fall for it.
