Anyone playing chess?

I used to play, in tournaments as well. I had 1800+ ELO. Beat a CM in a tournament etc etc.

I gave it up about a year ago because you need to put SO MUCH effort into it if you want to be good. Trust me, it's a waste of time if you are serious about it. It only pays off for people who started training at age ~5-8.
So I will save you some time (lost a couple of years on it personally) and tell you to give up if you want to be a competitive player.

On a side note, why do people automatically assume that those who are good at chess are more intelligent and bright than the crowd? At least, that's the notion in my country, which I feel is not true.

Recently I was watching some quiz game show. The contestant (chess player by trade) was not doing well with the answers, and the rather shocked and surprised celebrity host kept pressurizing the contestant that she was a chess player so she should know all the answers.

You can get better at any game by playing it regularly. It may activate some brain cells etc, but doesn't necessarily mean that you will be a lot smarter than the crowd.
 
I was around 1800 on Lichess.com a few years ago but I've stopped since it's a big time sink.
As for improving, I recommend playing 'classic' 10min games and really thinking hard on finding the best moves. Also watch a lot of youtube game overviews and guides, I recommend Mato Jelic/Ben Finegold, they are quite comical.
Once you spend some time with 'slow' chess you should see improvement in blitz/bullet chess as well, since certain types of patterns become natural for you to notice and execute.

I've found playing exclusively fast games doesn't allow you to focus enough on learning and recognizing those patterns. You can try chess puzzles too when you got like 5-10 minutes of free time, at several periods during the day.
 
Never played it on the computer, but I do play offline. Never got into speed chess, but given the time and not playing with a sore loser.. then I enjoy the game.
 
I as well always use chess.com, like to play with my old roommates sometimes.
 
I use the chess free app for Android.

It's a much better way to pass time over scrolling through FB

So if someone has just begun playing chess, he is automatically retarded as per your calculation? Because all beginners have low ratings = all beginners are retards? What an idiot.

Chess ELO is directly proportional to time spent, not IQ, you dingus.
