Skype name comes up as non-existant. You could just PM me your concerns as well, I'm not on skype all that often.

Wouldn't it be possible to just list on amazon and use their fulfillment center to make auto profits? Their affiliates will point to your product, and then their center will ship it while you get a check. It looks like there's just as many fees proportionally as being fully legit/independent, but you also don't have to deal with actually shipping the item, or customer support in any way.

Amazon as far as I know charges you per cubic foot that your products take up in their warehouse. Customer support is still on you though. Amazon does not supply support reps if your product is broken, malfunctioning or the customer has questions. You will still be responsible. There's also the issue of you needing to send that stock to Amazon; Dropshipping obviously does not work. To do so you would need to invest thousands to send products to amazon.

I just think it's easier on start/small businesses to operate their own website. The costs may look higher, but most of it is one-time or not often.

sent a few PMs out

any other helpful info/tips are much appreciated :)

About to start mine up again, had a few very quick questions.

Thanks blackhatters!

I owned a site that sold a certain type of apparel which brought in around $2K a month. If I kept on going I could have gotten it to around $10K-$18K depending on how aggressive I went. Used Volusion as the shopping cart and put heavy emphasis on the blog.

i would rather outsource to an expert. thanks for the input regardless...

Be careful... many 'experts' aren't as expert as you'd think. Find lots of reviews before you decide and don't be too cheap... you get what you pay for ;)

Great thread! I have a new E Commerce store and was looking for advice on what to do when it comes to getting traffic. for all the experienced store owners out there which method of traffic do you use the most that has brought in the best results? Which is your best free method and which is your best paid method? Also I know Google products is turning into Product Ads now so was wondering if this was one of the main traffic sources for online stores currently and what you were going to do when only the paid option is available...

Thanks in advance!

Its the most popular and the one of the best option to become a successful business owner. Have you seen the ads of the e- commerce sites in the TV? you can see how much profitable this business is.

There is no best "free" method of advertising until you get that method being used. SEO is obviously the "best" free and paid. Free because searches are, but paid because you can't be passive. Also by running a 100% online business, you will likely be competing with other companies for the same customers. To get to the other methods, you need customers. High SERPs is for the most part, required. Other avenues of revenue is from return customers and referrals. If you got a good product or service, you'll be referred to. Think how many times you've mentioned any website, store, restaurant etc... You don't recommend bad places unless you hate the person.
Using google shopping can be good/bad, but once it goes to pay-only it will be hard to make it work. Since google compares prices for the item, tax and shipping the customers will most always gravitate towards the lowest price. Unless you can compete on lowest price, you will need to hope to get some customers and impress them enough to be return customers.

I have three main traffic streams from 1 organic search 2 adwords 3 samples sent to bloggers and write about the products we offer.
I never would go for just one. Even if you have all items on #1 in Google, there are always many people that are lazy and just click the ads at the top of the SERPS so to get the most bang of the organic SE traffic a dual method is crucial.

I'd like to know if anyone experienced with eCommerce platforms has any feedback
regarding the effective use of price comparison sites / datafeeds. I'm starting to
receive phone calls from companies offering this as a distinct service with a monthly
fee of course. I've never used price comparison sites for my product, I've done cursory
research based on the phone calls that I've gotten and emails sent to me,
but I'm interested in merchant or dev feedback.

Any pitfalls to lookout for from these comparison site sales reps?

Thanks

Are your prices competitive? If yes I would look for good ranking comparison sites.

The pricing is on the high end, very niche product. But really I'm the only
one selling them, which I suspect could present an opportunity by competing
with myself.
