Anyone make beats?

Logic 9 using the ES1 virtual synth with UAD Pultec Pro EQ and UAD 1176LN Compressor. :) Fatest digital bass you'll get. If you want better get a Moog Voyager...

i use pro tools 8 and logic....nothing has more realistic sound than these two. a good beginners program is garage band.
 
my friend has ableton, he does some amazing shit with it, id love to spend the time learning but i am always pissing about with stupid blogs etc
 
another for Ableton user here, camel audio, audio damage, native instruments plugs (Abstynth is hands down my fav plug synth)

It's not about software, it's about ideas and feelings.

Don't listen to anyone telling you that Fruity Loops is a toy, for every awesome tune I've heard made in Fruity Loops, I've heard ten shit ones produced in Cu-gays/Poo Tools. Of course it depends on what you're into. Makin blippy beepy tunes vs recording live audio requires different software equipment but you have to try things out to see what fits your style.

I was wondering what programs you use to make cool beats especially with lots of glass breaking bass :)

Gonna bump an old thread here, but here's my 2 cents:

If you want to "make beats", go with Fruityloops, Acid or Garageband. Or go old school and get an AKAI MPC. (3000, 2000, 60, 60II... doesn't really matter. Cheaper is better, check ebay.)

If you want to "make songs", invest in Pro Tools. People will say "fuck Pro Tools, get _______!" (Fill in the blank: Logic, Cubase, Cakewalk, Vegas, etc.) And, yes, it doesn't necessarily matter what program you use, as long as the end result is good. However, if and when you are ready to deal with professionals please do not show up at a recording session with your tracks on anything but 'tools. You will not be taken seriously.

Having said that, Digital Performer kicks the asses of every other sequencer / digital editor ever created. Oh, and I don't care how rich the Black Eyed Peas are, they're still corny as hell.
 
Reason is a good tool for making beats. A new version is about to get released, but it's gonna be keyed so no more black hat music making hehe
 
fruity loops = for kids

real engineers use reason (as stated before) or get a couple of vstis that you can run with any of your favourite DAW software (pro tools,nuendo,sonar,...) but than again you need to know what you're doing...

I disagree. Ever hear Kylie Minogue's "I Just Can't Get Enough of Your Love"? It was 100% produced with FL Studio.
 
It's not about the tool, but about the skill. You can produce with both tools, but you'll definitely make something faster and better with Reason.

You can chisel something with just a chainsaw, but if you had a full chisel toolset with different carving tools, you'd probably do something faster and better.
 
The song tells what they are using for that boom boom boom. At about 1:45 "We go the beat that 808". 808 is an old school sequencer beat machine made by Roland but you can find the sample packs to use for production programs or a sampler (ie Akai). I used Reason by Propellerhead for a while because it produces some of the best sound for computer only music production and gives the user a lot of options because it can be custom wired as if you were using real rack mount equipment. I say used, because I don't make beats anymore.

PS. That kick drum is the signature sound of the 808 and if you tell a producer to throw an 808 kick in the track, they know exactly what you are talking about.

hands down, Reason 5 & Record 1.5 is absolutley the best!

i produce music for more than 7 years now and i have to say that u just need skillz to rock any program ;)
