Anyone Learning A 2nd or 3rd Language? If So What Language & How Are You Learning It?

English is my first foreign language. I used to study German and Chinese. Now I am on Russian language and doing ok if you consider I study alone.

My mother toungue is italian, I can speak fluently English because that's the main language that was spoken in my family.

When I was 16 my mom forced me to to move to Sweden, I lost like three years of education to learn the language. But I don't hate her for that because now days people that know more than a language have more opportunity of employment.

I'm 21 now and I need to wait another year before I can apply as a border officer in the UK (my dream job).

I'm using duolingo to learn Japanese. so far its helped me and I've learned a lot

I'm German and can speak German, English, Spanish, Greek, Japanese and Korean. Due to pronunciation problems I'm only able to read Russian & Latin instead of speaking it, haha.

The next language I want to learn is either Chinese or Italian with a mixture of Duolingo & audiobooks.

Guys don't give up if your first language wasn't English. My first written and spoken language was Spanish, second was English, and I'm currently learning Italian. I'm fully aware that my English writing skills are severely lacking the robustness from someone that was born and raised in an English speaking country.

I've learned all 3 languages by living in each country where the official language was either Italian, English, or Spanish. It forces you to break out of the shell and puts you in positions where you know you will make mistakes when speaking, and it is okay. The locals are fine with that as long as you are making an obvious clear effort.

Italian and Spanish are similar in a lot of things, they even have same words, but also words that mean different things but written and pronounced the same.

In the future I have plans to learn an Eastern Asian language, not sure on which one. Will probably move to Rome or Napoli to reinforce my Italian assimilation, and improve my Italian. However, I will probably need to get some coin in the states before making a move to a country that is extremely hostile to startups and small businesses.

After learning 2 languages, learning the third gets easier guys. Don't ever give up, and give Italian a chance, a really defined 2-in-1 language. You also got to learn the sign gestures to properly speak Italian, because sometimes words will not convey your message clearly amongst italians.

Im learning Russian as a second language, right now Im using Duolingo,Memrise, Rosetta Stone and Learning With Texts along with the FSI course.

Was taught English and some German at school, now I am learning Chinese, courses would be best IMO and after you have some fundamentals(A1/A2 lvl) immerse yourself in the language so- television, books, locals, …

I can speak Turkish, German and English without problems.

A little bit Spanish and I can “only” read arabic

German is my mother language, learned english for the last 9 years, then learned Italian for 4 years in school, but stopped it 2 years ago, as it wasnt for me... Want to start with spanish or estonian in the near Future.
